The Church specifies that confirmands be “suitably instructed, properly disposed, and able to renew their baptismal promises.” With these goals foremost in our minds, the preparation program for Confirmation includes weekly instruction; formation requirements (see left); and a retreat—which all culminate in Confirmation. The program for Confirmation at the Church of the Blessed Sacrament is one year, and students must have attended Faith Formation the previous year.
The liturgical color for Confirmation is red, to signify the Holy Spirit who confirmed the apostles on Pentecost and gave them courage to practice their faith. Catholics believe that the same Holy Spirit confirms us during the Sacrament of Confirmation and gives us the same gifts. Therefore, it is suggested you wear some red on this special day. For young men, it is traditional to wear a red tie. For young ladies, a red dress, a red sweater or other accent is suggested. White is also acceptable.
